My Main Man--Merle Haggard.. I read his biography and was very intrigued with his story.. I don't suppose ole merle ever did a song that I didn't know.. meaning.. I have every record he released.. Back in the early 70's.. Ft Worth had a place.. Panther Hall.. all the big name country stars came there and performed.. across the street from it was a little night club called.. Panther Hall Annex.. I use to go there and be a guest singer for the local bands.. one eve.. me and a couple of buddies were jamming at the annex.. was a Saturday noon.. A young man came in.. got a beer and sat down and listened.. I did one of Merle's songs.. he asked if he could join.. "Yep.. sure can.. Hey Joe.. let the fellow play your gitfiddle" He asked if I knew anymore Haggard songs.. I said yep.. here's one I bet you've never heard.. I noticed he played very good.. and when it was time for the break in the song.. he winked at me.. as to say.. Let Me Pick.. so I did.. WoW.. he was great.. after the song I asked him his name.. he said Bobby Wayne.. I said, "Not Merle's Bobby Wayne" It was.. He left Merle's touring band after the concert that night.
